The United States of America is a band for any true
instrument junkies out there. Oddly, the band, formed n 1967, did not have a
guitar player.
Instead, the group featured a number of unusual instruments
and is considered as progenitors of electronic music. The United States of
America used electric violin, electric fretless bass (one of the first),
electric harpsichord, organ, piano, ring modulators (go to the Wikipedia page
and play all three embedded samples SIMULTANEOUSLY), calliopes (think old-timey
circus) and the earliest forms of synthesizers.
It’s a cool sounding album even if it’s a formless mess.
