I wrote this when I reviewed the sister album to The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP:
"Maybe Eminem has a severe personality disorder.
Or maybe he has the best sense of humor in the world."
The Slim Shady LP, an homage to Eminem's dual personality, which could be a triumvirate if you count Eminem himself. I don't know where he fits in.
I feel the same about Eminem today as I did when I wrote about The Marshall Mathers LP: Some of it is brilliant wordsmithing and excellent delivery. Other parts are marred by his bitterness and this macho/crazy persona that he felt he needed to project, maybe to overcome his inadequacy of being a white kid in an overtly black game.
